Diversico decks on a table, with example cards including a Person card reading ‘Single man with children’ and a Profession card reading ‘Postman’

Diversico is a discussion-based card game for four to six players. I created it with Professor Richard Crisp as part of our research at Durham University, to help people explore the value of diversity at work.

One player, the Chooser, turns over a Person card, such as ‘Single man with children’. Everyone else plays a Profession card to make the pairing that most upends a common assumption about who does what, and the Chooser picks the winner. The Chooser role rotates each round. A game takes about 10 minutes, and the rules take a minute to learn.

The game builds on Richard’s research on cognitive liberalisation, the idea that engaging with difference can loosen rigid thinking in general, not just change how we see one group. It works as an icebreaker or discussion activity in inclusion training, team-building, and education.
